The gender gap and the COVID-19 pandemic: An analysis of net Brazilian formal job destruction

This paper sets out to analyze gender behavior in the Brazilian labor market as a result of economic effects COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on job destruction and creation during lockdown implementation social distancing throughout 2020. To do so, it uses New General Register Employed Unemployed (NCAGED) applies Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition net male female at municipal level, 18 40 age group. In addition, inequality for every month 2020, terms pre- post-pandemic context was verified. found that initial months affected all formal workers but had an even greater effect women. Another relevant contribution this study is its decomposition, where findings show largely due structural effects.
